How It All Began

Arlene Kallien, owner and creative force behind New Vintage™, started making greeting cards as a hobby. The feedback was tremendous and reactions were always the same; why not start a company and sell the cards?

In the beginning, starting a business was out of the question. Arlene was raising four busy children, going to college and working as an intern. There wasn't much time left for anything but sleep (and not much of that, either).

In may 2005, Arlene graduated cum laude from Northern Illinois University with a degree in journalism. Her oldest son went off to college. Her second son enlisted in the Air Force. With only two children left at home, life after graduation seemed much too calm.

Feeling a need to be productive and still wanting to be available for her two younger kids, Arlene began working from home as a freelance writer. The work varied from writing newspaper articles, brochures, copy for web pages, industry publications, company fact sheets and press releases. But her creative side kept tugging at her sleeve.

Realizing the tug was not one of her children, that's when it hit her; why not start a company and sell the cards?

And so, New Vintage™ was born!

Combining a love for antiques and a sense of humor, Arlene has created a unique line of everyday greeting cards designed to make even the most serious person giggle.
